Galle, Southern Province, Sri Lanka

Long before the Galle Fort was universally acknowledged as a national treasure, there were some properties within these storied ramparts that were special enough to spark the imagination and birth a vision.

This villa in Galle is one such catalyst, the first to be bought by a foreigner in the post-colonial era and one of the very first to be styled and restored into the sort of intimate, luxurious villa that Sri Lanka’s most discerning travelers have come to expect from hotels in Galle Fort.

Most recently restored by Taru Villas, this exotic location is an elegant combination of colonial charm and modern amenities.

A powerful design aesthetic weaves together the spirit of the old world, the magic of nature and the comforts of today.

The villa is also one of the few properties within the entirety of the Galle Fort that provides the luxury of a private swimming pool.

As always, the staff at this Galle villa are unobtrusive but infinitely attentive, paying attention to all the little things that are bound to make an enjoyable stay, truly memorable.

The villa is located mid-way along Lighthouse Street, in historic Galle Fort, just 150 metres from the grass-topped western-facing ramparts and a further 200 metres from the town’s famous international test cricket stadium.
The fort is a world heritage site and dates back over 400 years; a walk along its narrow cobbled streets reveals the fascinating hybrid architecture of three colonial eras – fretwork-fringed and pillarred Dutch abodes, British-era monuments, ochre-hued spice warehouses and interesting museums showcasing the fort’s rich history.
There are many restaurants and cafes, as well as boutiques selling handicrafts, delicate lacework, glittering gems and other evocative souvenirs.
Within 15 kilometres are a selection of mesmerising beaches, tranquil lagoons and historic temples.

GUIDED CYCLING
Sometimes the simpler things in life provide the greatest pleasure. Guided bike tours through the lush green paddy fields give a glimpse of an often unseen part of Sri Lanka. Marvel at kingfishers and bee-eaters, glimpse the daily rituals of village life or just enjoy the cool breeze of free-wheeling through a magnificent landscape. This has been a longtime top excursion.

We will send you the villa menus and work with the best suppliers to produce a fantastic collection of wines and champagnes to complement any palette. Wines need to be paid for in advance of arrival.
KANDYAN DANCERS / BUDDHIST BLESSINGS
An intimate front row seat of the unique Kandyan Dancers – expect back-flips, drums, masks and fire display – all from the comfort of the villa. Most villas have a shrine and guests can benefit from a visit by Monks from a nearby Temple to conduct a blessing for a gentle and moving experience.
WHALE WATCHING
From December to April Whales and dolphins, including the mighty Blue Whale, can be seen off the southern coast. Seeing one of the largest animals on earth in one of the most agreeable temperatures is a truly amazing experience. We always recommend a private boat so that guests can swim or snorkel before coming ashore.
SAFARI
Udewalawa and Yala are the big two and offer fantastic game viewing of Leopards, Elephants, Buffalo & Sloth Bears. For birders, SL is a dream destination. Kalametiya and Bandula National Park are a must and some 197 different species of bird will stop here throughout the year.
SUNSET SAILING
Setting out from Mirissa harbor to enjoy the sunset from the comfort of a luxury catamaran has been one of our top-rated experiences. For 3 hours embrace the joys of the ocean, sipping a sundowner or snorkeling. This is an unforgettable experience and one your clients will treasure forever.
